Year 6 Sex and Relationships Education
Dear Parents and Carers of the Current Year 6 cohort,
As part of our ongoing Personal, Social and Health Education programme, the pupils currently in Year 6 should have taken part in Sex and Relationships Education during their time in Year 5. Unfortunately, due to lockdown, this learning did not take place. As a result, we will be undertaking this part of the curriculum in Year 6 after the autumn half term.
This unit of work involves discussing and watching a video on the physical and emotional changes that occur during puberty. It has been agreed by the staff and governors that the video to be viewed is suitable for Year 5 pupils and appropriate for their stage of development. Under normal circumstances, we would hold a meeting for parents in Year 5 to see the Sex and Relationships Education materials we will be using. This year, in order for you to view the materials we will be placing the relevant video on a password-protected page on the Pegasus Academy Trust website from 9am on Monday 19th October until 4.30pm on Friday 23rd October. A link to this page and the password will be sent to all Year 6 parents via text at the end of this week.
It is important that you are aware of the material covered as part of this curriculum as discussions may arise at home. If you decide that you do not want your child to take part in Sex and Relationships Education, then you will need to put this in an email to the school. However, we believe that it is extremely important that all the children are given the information first hand and in the safe environment within their class. As such the boys and girls will be viewing the material separately which has proven beneficial in the past.
As always, thank you for your continued support.
The Year 6 Team
