Spring 1 News Letter

Dear parents and carers,

Welcome back to the start of a new term.  We hope you all enjoyed the holidays.  Many thanks for all your good wishes and 'Happy New Year' to you all!

Our Topic
Our topic this half term is 'Traditional Tales' and includes a strong focus on early literacy.  Each week the children will explore a different story, listening to different versions and practising retelling, sequencing and acting it out.  The stories we will be looking at include:
–  The Gingerbread Man
–  Goldilocks
–  Jack and the Beanstalk
–  The Three Little Pigs
–  The Enormous Turnip
–  Little Red Riding Hood

The children will also undertake a wide range of activities connected to these stories to develop their skills across the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum.  You can help your child at home by asking them about the stories they have heard in Nursery and encouraging them to talk about them at home.

Reception Class Applications
The deadline for handing in your application for a Reception class place in September is fast approaching.  All applications must be completed and received by Croydon Council on or before midnight on the 15th January.  Please speak to the Nursery staff as soon as possible if you have not yet handed in your application or if you have any problems handing it in on time.

Name Cards
Last term, the children began to practise writing their names at school and this is something we will continue this term.  We will also be sending home name cards so your child can practise with you at home.  Please encourage your child to 'have a go' and persevere if you haven't already, as this is an important skill which really helps in preparing for Reception class.

Communication Workshops
Finally, look out for our 'Communication Workshops' happening soon, especially for nursery parents.  We hope that as many of you as possible will be able to attend these – more details to follow soon.

Please do speak to the staff if you have questions about any of the above.  In the meantime, we look forward to continuing to work with you.
