CYP LOWER: Loving their Learning!

Welcome back to Spring 2 for our Cypress Family!

We hope you all had a lovely half-term break. We have loved welcoming back all those who wished to return to Little Cypress this week and have been amazed at how happily and confidently the children have come back to Nursery and Rainbows!  We are really looking forward to welcoming all of the children back to school on Monday the 8th of March. We hope that the children are as excited as we are to get back into a much more normal school routine.  We understand that the period of lockdown may have been challenging for many of you but we are very proud of the way in which the vast majority of children have risen to the challenge of learning from home.  We continue to be so impressed with how well the children have been engaging with their online learning and wish to thank all the parents and carers for their fabulous support in maintaining the momentum until we all return in person to school. Well done to everyone who was awarded a Rainbow Certificate in our assemblies this morning.

Over the coming week, please take some time to prepare your child for their return to school.  We understand that routines at home may have been different but please encourage your child to get ready by:

  •        Establishing a sensible, age appropriate bedtime that ensures your child is getting enough sleep and is ready to learn;
  •        Establishing a morning routine that will enable your child to be in school on time;
  •        Finding school uniform and other necessary equipment.  (Don’t leave this until Sunday night!);
  •        Discourage your child from snacking throughout the day as they will not be able to do this when they are back in school

Whilst we are confident that it is safe for your child to return to school and although case numbers are dropping locally, it is still important that all adults coming on to the school grounds play their part in keeping everyone safe. All adults please continue to wear masks on the school grounds and please ensure only one adult drops off and collects your child/ren.

Please note there is no Keyworker Provision on Friday, 5th March to give staff time to set up their classrooms in preparation for the children returning. This will also be a No Screen Day on that day, with suggested activities posted on the class blogs.

Cypress ‘Virtual’ Book Week

Our usual exciting Book Week is going ahead next week although this year our authors, poets and storytellers will be interacting with us via our screens! Please refer to the newsletter and writing competition downloads on the website for more details. It will be important to check the class blogs carefully each day for Book Week events as they may not be at the usual set times. Some have been pre-recorded and some will be live events. We will of course record our live events and be able to post them on to the blogs for later viewing, but we really hope you will be able to join the live events and enjoy interacting with our special visitors.

The children will be working on Mystery stories, as well as many other book related activities. Please encourage your children to enter our Mystery Story competition, entries will be judged by our authors and we have some great prizes! And don’t forget to get hold of a decent sized potato for our Dress a Potato as a Book Character activity! We can’t wait to see what you come up with!

Finally, World Book Day vouchers will be given out once the children return to school. You can find WBD books at most supermarkets and online bookshops.

A huge thank you to Mrs Parker for all her hard work and enthusiasm in arranging such an exciting and inspirational week for the children!

Wraparound Care Provision – Breakfast and After School Club Bookings

As part of the wider opening of Cypress school our Breakfast Club and After School Club will be also be available to all pupils. https://www.pegasusacademytrust.org/breakfast-and-after-school-care. Parents can now book on a ‘ad hoc’ basis but bookings must be made by lunchtime the day before; we can no longer accept any bookings at the end of the school day. This is to ensure we adhere to safety guidelines.

Y1 & Y2 breakfast and afterschool club will be held in the Community room, so parents/carers will need to drop off and collect their child/ren from the Community Room entrance (opposite the Reception classes’ entrance)

Rainbows, Nursery and Reception children will continue to have Breakfast and After School care in the Little Cypress building.

Please  be aware that if your child attends the Breakfast or After School care, this heightens the risk of your child/ren being asked to self isolate, as your child/ren will be in contact with a wider range of children over the day

All instructions are in that post, and this is the closest we’ll get to a school concert this year, so it would be great if you and your pupils were involved. The London Mozart Players are all onboard and building their videos now. Ed’s manager has given it the all clear too! How exciting is that?

We hope you all have a wonderful weekend and that the sun continues to shine!
