CYP Lower: Celebrating our creativity, inspired by nature!

This week the children at Cypress have been celebrating art week; the theme for the week has been nature, the beautiful trees and the wildlife on our school site. Every class has had the opportunity to go outside and explore the sights in nature. Year 1 ventured out to the park to sketch their surroundings and year 2 started preparing for their transition to KS2 by going to the upper school to draw the landscape and wildlife there. Each year group chose a tree to study and developed a class work of art inspired by a chosen artist. They also chose a one of the resident creatures who live on our school site to feature in their work of art.  Here is a list of what each class focused on:

Rainbows – Cherry Blossom and badgers.

Nursery – Cherry Blossom and our resident badger and hedgehogs.

Reception – Horse Chestnut, Oak, Cedar trees with special appearances from blackbirds.

Year 1 – Sycamore, Weeping Willow and Silver Birch. Our grey squirrels and our very rare white squirrel.

Year 2 – Apple Blossom, Beech and Silver Birch.  Special appearances from Mr Fox, our magpies and green parakeets.

Below we have shared some photos of the children’s work created this week but the big outdoor exhibition will be in the next week or so. I have seen some of the final pieces and they are outstanding, so watch this space for further details of our exhibition.

Due to the relaxing of Covid restrictions we will be moving to year group ‘bubbles’ from Monday 17th May.  Children will be able to play with other children in their year group.  The office will be open for essential business only. We will obviously continue to review the situation to ensure that the children and staff are safe.

Have great weekend and we look forward to seeing you next week.
