The children at Cypress Lower worked incredibly hard during Art Week, focusing on trees as a celebration of our re-developed Forest School. Each class from Rainbows to Year 2 chose a tree to study and some made those trees in the style of a chosen artist; for example: Little Cypress and Hakusai, Reception and Klimt and Year 1 and Monet. The children had time to observe their particular tree in the school grounds or, for example, Indigo Class went to South Norwood Lakes to see Weeping Willows in situ.
The finished trees look absolutely stunning and we are trying to organise the safest way to display the art work so that parents/carers can see it in person: watch this space!
Here is a list of the different trees each class focused on:
Rainbows – Cherry Blossom
Nursery (Gold and Silver) – Cherry Blossom
Red Class – Oak Tree
Yellow Class – Horse Chestnut Tree
Orange Class – Cedar Tree
Indigo Class – Weeping Willow
Blue Class – Silver Birch
Green Class – Sycamore Tree
Turquoise Class – Apple Blossom
Ruby Class – Plum Tree
Violet Class – Silver Birch
The classes used many different techniques to create the finished displays, including printing, painting with watercolours, leaf rubbings and collage.
We hope you will all agree that the children have done an amazing job, whilst learning new skills along the way.
