Welcome back to a new school year!
We have had a great week welcoming all of our children and families back to Cypress. It’s been a pleasure watching children come into school every day wearing shiny new shoes and looking so smart in their uniforms. We would like to extend a very warm welcome to our wonderful new children and families who have joined (or will soon join) Cypress in Rainbows, Nursery, Reception and some of our Year 1 and 2 classes. We have a strong community at Cypress so please do ask other parents or school staff if you need any help navigating the school site or have any queries. Our new Reception classes have started part-time this week and have been busy exploring their learning environments and touring the school. We look forward to them all joining us full-time from next Monday.
There has certainly been a buzz of excitement around the school this week, with children and staff eagerly looking forward to the year ahead. In assembly on Monday we thought about what we were excited about learning this academic year and how we could all be good friends and ‘Pegasus People’. Miss Wenham led an assembly on Tuesday about ‘International Day of Clean Air’ and how important it is to look after our environment.
We are excited to launch our new Reading Tree initiative, which encourages children to spend time reading daily. Our vision is ‘Growing Readers’ throughout children’s time at Cypress and promoting a lifelong love of reading. A letter was sent out this week with further details and you can also find a copy here. We are excited to start rewarding children and classes for their efforts.
Our year 1 and 2 enrichment PPA sessions started again on Wednesday and you can find the timetable for the academic year here. During these sessions children take part in Forest School, learn Spanish, drama and so much more! Please look at our Forest School information to find out more about when your child’s class takes part in sessions, what they should wear and the benefits of outdoor learning. We are so fortunate to have this amazing resource in our school. We sent a text out to families earlier in the week with details of our PE lessons which you can find here.
I’d like to thank everyone for welcoming me back so kindly following my maternity leave. I am excited for the year ahead and it’s great to be back with the Cypress community. Our school is such a wonderful place and I know we will continue to grow from strength to strength this year.
Have a wonderful weekend.
