Swimming Gala

Last week, some very talented children from Y5 and Y6 attended a Swimming Gala and vowed everyone with their superb skills in the water!

Here are some words written on the day, from Mrs Proctor, who attended the event with the children:

The team performed amazingly well this morning at South Norwood Pool. A group of year 5 and 6 children participated in a Croydon Schools inter school Gala. This was the second day of races and there is a third heat on Thursday at Purley pool. We will then be ranked, to find out whether we have made it through to the FINALS at Trinity Pool, on Wednesday 13th March.

Unfortunately, we have been unable to practice as a team this year, but the team spirit and support from everyone made this event a great success. I was so proud of the tremendous effort everyone made; well done all!

The Girls’ 3×1 medley relay finished third and the 4×1 relay was a very tight 4th. Most children were placed in the top 4, in their individual races. Strokes were: freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and Angelina (Hazel class) braved the butterfly.

I hope we have good news at half term about some finalist, but in my eyes, they are all champions.

Particular thanks to the enthusiastic year 6 children, who first swam for me when they were in year 3 or 4. It was so lovely to see the progress they have made over the years.

Thank you for the support of all of the adults who came along.

Congratulations to all our swimmers from everyone at Cypress Primary!
