On Friday 4th May, the day after the local elections, New Forest class were lucky enough to be offered the chance to visit the Houses of Parliament in Westminster. It was a fantastic trip where the children got the chance to learn all about the make up and running of the UK Parliament. We visited the House of Commons, the House of Lords, saw the Magna Carta and learnt about Black Rod and the different monarchs who have sat at the head of the house over the centuries. They even got the chance to take the place of the Government and the Opposition in a mock debate in the Commons Chamber.
It was a terrific learning opportunity and the children presented their experiences to their parents and the rest of the school in a class assembly the following week.
