CYP Upper: Museum Day 2024!

It has been a fun-packed  day at Cypress Upper!

It was so lovely to see so many parents at school today for our annual Cypress Upper Museum Day!

As parents entered the Upper School main corridor, they were immediately presented with a vast array of activities throughout the Year 5 Viking Zone.  Viking shields adorned the classrooms and children were busying themselves depicting their favourite Norse god from detailed descriptions.

Down the stairs, was Year 6’s  ‘Walk like an Egyptian’ zone! Golden death masks were beautifully displayed, and children were making shadufs: a hand operated device for lifting water used by Egyptians to irrigate the land.

Off the main corridor, was the Year 4 Roman Zone. Roman shields were displayed along the hallway. It was wonderful to see the detail that had gone into designing and making their replica shields. Roman purses adorned the classroom walls and children were recreating the eruption of Vesuvius with their model volcanoes outside!

Last but not least, up the stairs to the Year 3 Zone: ‘The Victorian’s’. Where children have been learning about the famous Isambard Kingdom Brunel and his truss and suspension bridges, creating replicas of well known bridges and explaining what makes their structures fit for purpose! They were also practising their copperplate handwriting in their Victorian schoolrooms, whilst the teachers served up gruel!

Special thanks to our House and Vice Captains: Amelia, Ruby, Abbey, Joe, Flora, Lara, Malaika, and Dotty, who directed parents around the school during our two tour times, helping the day to run smoothly.

A marvellous day was had by all!

Thank you to all of the children and staff for working together to deliver a very special Museum Day.

What a great way to end the week!

We hope you enjoyed your visit!
