Celebrating Chinese New Year

The children in Red Class had an exciting time dancing like a Chinese dragon. Red Class worked together to make a colourful dragon's head. They attached a really long piece of material to it to make the dragon's body. When they were dancing they moved their arms up and down underneath the material to make it look like the dragon's body was going up and down. They were accompanied by a fantastic parading band playing the drums, cymbals, maracas and bells.

Did you know that long, long ago in China, the Jade Emperor decided there should be a way of measuring time ! On his birthday he told the animals there was going to be a swimming race. Red class have been learning how the animals raced to decide which twelve of them would have a year named after them in the Zodiac. Perhaps you could ask your child to tell you the story.
