Here at Beulah we were delighted to have such an exciting ‘Wellbeing Week’. This was planned as part of our continued focus to promote positive mental health and wellbeing for all. During the week, the children had the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of activities looking at the ‘5 Ways to Wellbeing’. All children enjoyed yoga sessions – building on the techniques that they had been taught last term by the Children’s Yoga Tree for relaxation, building confidence and improving concentration. The teachers started each day with a ‘mindful’ activity and had mindful pauses throughout the day, including mindful eating. Our class circle times focused on being mindful- introducing the Pause, Breath and Smile technique and each class were given their own ‘Calm basket’ for their reading corners. Our whole school storybook for the week was ‘How Full is Your Bucket?’ The ideas from the story were used in every class to support the children create their own buckets of kindness. Each day a different emotion was explored in every class, accompanied by a story and suggestions about how to talk about how we feel and who can help us. Our coach George from Moving Matters taught us exciting ways to be active through exercise. Finally, we had a very busy election week where the class candidates wrote their own campaigns and presented them to their classes before the Election Day. We had a very official election with a real Polling Station set up in the school library. Every child voted and we reminded them that ‘They have a right to be heard’. We now look forward to continuing to build upon our approach to ensure a healthy school with positive wellbeing.
