Our caterers, Harrison Catering, utilise a high percentage of British produce in their menus on a daily basis. In celebration and support of ‘British Food Fortnight’ (from Monday 24th September to Friday 5th October 2018) they will be highlighting British produce on our menu as part of the seasonal vegetable selection each day in the salad bar selection and as part of the daily fruit selection.
British Food Fortnight was conceived in response to the fact that, though there are numerous food initiatives, projects and events taking place across Britain, there was no overall flagship event to bring them to the public’s attention. Held in the autumn at the same time as Harvest Festival, British Food Fortnight is the biggest annual, national celebration of British food and drink
Since its launch, the event has quickly become the definitive national celebration of our British food, and the health benefits and pleasures of eating quality, fresh, seasonal and regionally distinct produce. During the two weeks of British Food Fortnight we can look forward to seeing on our menus:
· British grown seasonal vegetables such as: Celeriac; Candy Beetroot; Butternut Squash; Baby Red Chard; Rainbow Radishes.
· British grown seasonal fruit such as: Braeburn Apples; Russet Apples; Cox’s Apples; Conference Pears; Victoria Plums.
Please take the opportunity to talk to your child about what was on the menu at school over British Food Fortnight and support this worthwhile national event.
