This week we have had hundreds of minibeast visitors from Crystal Palace aquarium: yes, you’ve guessed it – more critters including cockroaches, locusts, fruit beetle grubs and crickets. ??? Seeing these creatures up close has motivated our keen, young entomologists to scour all our play areas to find other minibeasts to study and classify!
As part of their African topic this term, our Y1 classes had a superb Ghanaian dance workshop on Monday. The children were immersed in the traditional drumming, dance and songs from Ghana. The dance was lead by the master-drummer who was incredibly talented and inspirational. Our children showed real flare, enthusiasm and stamina and the teachers loved seeing the children develop in confidence as they learnt to ‘let go’ and link their actions together. The whole experience ended with a talent show, where pairs of children showcased their own moves to the rest of their class. Blue Class were able to show their parents and carers some of the dance moves in their class assembly on Thursday, which demonstrated our cross curricular learning in science, literacy, music and dance.
Green class demonstrated wonderful learning powers of perseverance and team work when they were learning in our forest school, they had to travel from one side of the forest to the other WITHOUT touching the floor. Alara, Bobby and Nevaeh were superstars in this activity.
This next section of the post is written by Daisy in Turquoise class.
We have been very creative in year 2. The design and technology project started with planning our monster puppet designs, we then collated the resources we would need and cut out the puppet shape. The next stage involved sewing the puppets together, this was very tricky. We sewed on the eyes ( buttons) and cut out felt material to create paws, animal prints and the face feature – this is when the puppets came alive. I can’t wait to take mine home.
