Action Packed April!
Cypress Cycling Club is organised by parents and is a chance for families to ride together in the local area. Both children and adults learn how to ride safely and which roads and off-road routes are the best. It’s sociable, fun and it’s FREE!
Sunday 22nd – Beginners – South Norwood Lakes @ 10am
This Sunday we are doing a session suitable for absolute beginners through to intermediate riders (suggested age range 3-7) at South Norwood Lakes. Balance bikes and stabilisers welcome – though we’ll be aiming to ditch the latter by the end of the session.
We’ll be starting from 10am (meet at our usual spot by the ice cream kiosk), but turn up any time and find us in the park – either doing laps of the lake, or basic skills training at the basketball court. Younger riders don’t feel obliged to stay for the full two hours if those little legs start to tire.
We’ll wrap up with a trip to “Don’t Tell Grandma” for those who are ready to show off their new found skills. Bring water / squash and a snack. Adults: bikes optional.
Sunday 29th – Intermediate / Advanced – South Norwood Lakes @ 10am
The following weekend we’re running a longer ride, around 8 miles, suggested age 7+. Starting at our usual spot at the Lake, we’ll head across to Crystal Palace Park, climb to the top of the hill via the park and then coast down to Dulwich Park for a cafe and playground stop, before returning via quiet back streets and Crystal Palace Park once more. This ride is a great way to practice for some of the longer rides we’re planning over the summer. Allow a little extra time for this one – we’ll aim to get back to the Lakes by 12, but it may go over schedule. Adults: bring your bike for this one. Snacks and water highly recommended, we’ll refill and refuel at Dulwich Park’s cafe.
Organisers / Volunteers Social – Thursday 26th
This one’s for the grown-ups. Thursday 26th 8pm at the Alma (Church Road, SE19), we’re meeting up to discuss plans for the summer and beyond. All welcome – we’re looking to recruit a few more volunteers so that we can run activities for both beginner riders and the more adventurous at least once a month over the summer, and to offer Ride Leader skills training for adults looking to help out on group / family rides in general.
Discussion List @ Google Groups
In addition to the newsletter list, we now have a Google groups discussion group. This is a place to get tips and advice for planning your own family rides (there are lots of great routes around.. if you know where to find them) and for organising spontaneous two wheeled trips outside of the regular CCC calendar – whether Bedgebury, Norbury, Forest Way or Downs Link. Drop Angus a line (firstname.lastname@example.org) if you’d like to subscribe.
See you at the Lakes!
