No Pens Day is an annual day of spoken language and listening activities that takes place in schools across the country. Spoken language and listening skills are fundamental for learning to read and write, managing emotions, developing friendships and entering employment. Alongside a curriculum that gives much opportunity for oracy, we wanted to celebrate the importance of speaking and listening by putting down our pens for a day and focusing our words and the words of others. We had great fun role playing scenes from the book Krindlekrax, creating and playing maths games, following verbal instructions to create Christmas crafts, class debating, creating oral stories and describing scientific processes using key vocabulary.
