CYP – Stories from our Patron of Reading

Dear Cypress children and families,

We are all missing you so much and that includes our fabulous Patron of Reading, Margaret Bateson-Hill. Margaret was due to have several more visits to us this term to tell us magical stories from different times and cultures and to inspire us in our reading and writing choices. She has been in touch with me regularly and has very kindly recorded two stories for us – you can recreate her assembly at home! There are no age limits on stories of course! However, Lower school children will enjoy Margaret’s retelling of ‘Chicken Licken‘ and Upper school children might be able to identify the origins of ‘Rabbit Steals the Fire‘.

If you go to Margaret’s website and the tab marked ‘STORY TIME’ you can also see her in a video telling the story of ‘The King who wanted to touch the moon‘. We can all remember Margaret’s wonderful interactive telling of this story at Lower school – maybe you could add some actions to the story as she tells it? Or write and illustrate your own version of it? You can also see some of our wonderful Cypress writing on Margaret’s website – I have put the link below.

Send any of your Margaret inspired writing and drawing to our home learning email and we can forward them to Margaret!

I hope you are all keeping up your reading and writing at home – remember we can all travel when we get lost in a story……!

Love from Mrs Parker
