What a fantastic term for reading and writing at Cypress Primary! Lots of children achieved their Gold Accelerated Reading certificates this week which means they have maintained their daily reading habit! A huge well done to all those children! At Lower school we had our first 1000 books read by one child – we were so impressed by this that we awarded a special book prize in recognition of this amazing achievement! We have also acknowledged our brilliant Bug Club readers with certificates and badges.
As part of our Mystery Story themed Book Week we hosted out first school wide writing competition. We had a very impressive amount of entries – we have a lot of budding Agatha Christie’s out there! A selection from each class were judged by our Cypress author friends, Margaret Bateson-Hill and Judith Eagle. All the results have now been announced across the school and the winning entries from each class were also awarded a £10 book voucher, kindly funded by our brilliant PTFA. Our judges were so impressed by the creativity in our children’s writing and it has been fantastic to see how much pleasure children had in their writing with such an open ended brief. We will definitely plan more fun writing competitions across the school in the future!
Have a lovely Easter break and keep reading and writing, Cypress!
