What a wonderful week at Cypress Lower School!
Today during our celebration assembly, we awarded some children in each class with Rainbow certificates in recognition of their excellent work and attitude towards learning. We also chose some ‘Word of the Week’ champions who had handed in sentences including the word ‘happy’. Next week our Word of the Week is exercise so please encourage your child to write a sentence with this word and post it into the golden box for the chance to win a rosette.
We also revealed the results of our School Council elections in assembly today. Our candidates read their manifestos aloud in class and then their peers voted democratically. The successful candidates were so proud to receive their badges today and be officially named as their class representatives. Their first meeting will be with Miss Wenham next Tuesday and we look forward to hearing about their future plans and ideas.

Last week the first Reading Tree Bedtime Bookbags went home with 3 children from each Reception class. They cuddled up to their reading bear and shared 2 brand new stories with their families. What a lovely start to our Reading Tree rewards in Reception!
A team of fabulous parents and staff collectively swam 9 miles of The Serpentine last weekend to raise money for ‘Children with Cancer UK’; a charity very close to their hearts. If anyone would like to donate to this incredibly worthwhile cause there’s still time! Click here to read more and make your donation.
This afternoon we had a cake sale on the Lower School field to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support. Thank you for everyone’s generosity and we will share the fundraising total next week!
Lower School families will have spotted the new ground works taking place near the community room. We hope that our new path extension will be ready next week to provide more space for families dropping off and collecting children from school each day.
We look forward to welcoming families to our upcoming curriculum meetings, which will be held in the Lower School hall. We ask that families are mindful of social distancing and encourage adults to wear face coverings if they are able to. Where possible we’d appreciate if you could arrange childcare for younger siblings. We will also post resources online if anyone is unable to make these meetings. The dates are:
- Year 1 – Tuesday 28th September, 9am
- Year 2 – Friday 1st October, 9am
- Reception – Tuesday 5th October, 9am
Polite requests – Please can parents/carers refrain from smoking whilst walking their children to and from school. We also ask that families park their cars considerately, being mindful of our neighbours.
We’d like to thank everyone for their support this week and hope that you all enjoy a lovely weekend.
