This week during assembly we read ‘It’s okay to make mistakes’ by Todd Parr. In school we teach the children about ‘building learning powers’ (BLP) and we are learning more about how we can be resilient. Part of this is being able to learn from our mistakes and recognising that making mistakes helps us all to learn. We celebrated our achievements today in our Rainbow assembly and selected 3 children as Word of the Week champions!
Everyone’s had a fantastic week of learning and we’re proud of our Cypress children for working so hard. Reception have been reading ‘I am a Feel-o-saur’ and thinking about different feelings, linking to their ‘building learning power’ dinosaurs. They have then been representing their feelings using colour and have created some fantastic artwork in the style of Jackson Pollock. Year 1 have had a very busy week learning about the importance of skeletons and have even had a go at making their own! Our Year 2 children have been learning about place value in maths, using using various concrete resources to represent numbers and using this knowledge to partition numbers.
Many thanks to those who attended our Year 1 and Year 2 curriculum meetings this week. We hope that you found them useful and that this will further support you when helping your child at home. Please click the links above to see the presentations if you were unable to attend. We look forward to welcoming our Reception parents/carers in for their curriculum meeting next Tuesday 5th October from 9am.
Our school council met for their first official meeting with Miss Wenham this week and discussed all the ways they hope to contribute positively to school life this year. They all took this responsibility seriously and proudly attended wearing their shiny new badges. We look forward to hearing more from them throughout the academic year.
