What a fabulous and inspiring start to Book Week at lower site! Our Patron of Reading, Margaret Bateson-Hill, kicked the week off with an exciting story-telling assembly for Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 children. The children helped her tell the traditional story of The Three Little Pigs, using masks and props. This assembly prompted lots of fantastic work on traditional tales. Year 1 made their own masks and re-told the story of The Three Little Pigs, as well as writing their own versions of stories such as Little Red Riding Hood.
All the Year 2 classes had workshops with Margaret, based on her book Lao Lao of Dragon Mountain. They wrote class Dragon poems and learned how to make cut outs from paper for illustrations. Reception have had a busy day with Buddy Reading with Year 4 children and then travelling around each Reception class to hear a story for their Story Passport.
After school Margaret ran a Bookmaking workshop for Year 2 children with paper dolls for their story characters and lots of inventive cutting, folding and sticking!
