What a fabulous week we have had at Cypress Lower School! We have welcomed our reception children in full-time and they are taking the lunchtimes and longer days in their stride. We have also loved meeting all of our new Rainbows and Nursery children in Little Cypress, where they are getting quickly used to our routines. Well done to all the children in our Early Years for settling so well.
A big thank you to all for making such a huge effort with your attempts at social distancing and for wearing face coverings whilst on the school premises. We are constantly reviewing procedures and making improvements. This week we have started opening the vehicle drive for pedestrians walking UP Cypress Road when they leave the site which has enhanced social distancing at the end of the school day.
Some classes have enjoyed our wonderful Forest School this week! Two of the reception classes (Orange and Red) and Violet Class have been having enormous fun exploring our woodland and learning new life skills. All of the classes will enjoy half a term of Forest School over the academic year – please click here to view our PPA Wednesday timetable for the year.
As part of our Reconnection Curriculum, we have been focusing on Building our Learning Power through our assemblies, circle times and generally, in our classrooms and around the school. These Learning Powers involve thinking carefully about how best we learn and which skills help us to maximise our learning skills. These include determination, collaboration, perseverance, being open-minded, resilience and independence. Perhaps some of the children will be able to tell you more about these powers?
Today we were raising money for the ‘Jeans for Genes’ charity, by wearing our jeans and bringing in a donation. We have raised a fantastic £200 at the Lower School! Many thanks for your support with this incredible charity which supports Children’s Medical Research Institute and helps find cures for children’s genetic diseases. Next Friday we are fundraising for MacMillan Cancer Care so please bring in a donation to be entered into our grand raffle – we wonder who will win Ms Shadbolt’s yummy cake?!
In our virtual Rainbow assembly today we celebrated children from each class who had been chosen for outstanding achievements this week. We also spoke about our upcoming Lower School Council elections and children in Year 1 and 2 can find the letter here. Mrs Sorensen awarded a special Rainbow certificate to Robin in Ruby class, who set himself the challenge of fundraising for Cypress Primary School over the summer holidays. He trained every week and built up to running an amazing 2.5km, raising an inspirational £780 for our school! We are very grateful and proud of his achievements.
We hope you have a fantastic weekend and look forward to seeing you on Monday for another exciting week at school!
