CYP: Cypress Cycling Club Good Friday Meet

Good Friday, April 2nd, 10am @ South Norwood Lakes – CCC is back in action with something for everyone!

It’s been a long winter – although it’s been great to see more and more Cypress children cycling to school, and families exploring the new cycle facilities that have been put in between South and Central London.

Our ride leaders have been busy discovering more rides and routes, and with the easing of lockdown rules, we are now able to resume Cypress Cycling Club within the guidelines for organised outdoor sport.

So this Friday, here’s what’s on the menu:

For Beginner / Intermediate level (no previous on-road experience required, but for those who’ve got the hang of basic bike handling skills), a five-miler around Selhurst and South Norwood, visiting some local green spaces you might not be familiar with and maybe a playground or two.

And for Intermediate / Advanced (recommended age 8+, or previous experience of longer rides with a bit of gradient), a ten mile route taking in Shirley Hills, Spring Park and Foxes Wood on the National Cycle Network Route 21.

Both rides aiming for an approximate duration of 2 hours – the Advanced may be a little longer depending on how long we stay at Spring Park & Foxes Wood.

Our Ride Leaders / Instructors will be on hand with advice on routes for families to explore independently, and for adults who may be looking to take up cycling to work in order to avoid public transport.

No cake this time (sorry!) so please bring a snack (or three) and some water. Weather forecast is dry but cool – wear a few layers so you can stay comfortable as you warm up and cool down.

Assemble 10am near the ice cream kiosk at the Lakes as usual – please read & observe the following rules:

  • Don’t come on the ride if you’ve had any symptoms in the last 2 weeks or have been told to isolate.
  • When meeting / waiting, please assemble on the grass well away from the paths. Please don’t block the lakeside path or kiosk tables with bikes.
  • When riding in the park, please ride single file & slowly – South Norwood Lakes is much busier than usual and the paths can be crowded, please be considerate.
  • Please be aware that there aren’t any loos open on the route – with the cafes still shut that’s not an option.

Bring yourself, your bike & your common sense & we’ll have a great time!

Keep on pedalling,

– CCC.
