Year Six have been getting their hands dirty this week (literally!) by creating their very own ancient Greek amphorae, or vases. The children have had to design the shape, patterns and ancient Greek scene to decorate the vase having looked at examples – some of which are currently housed in the British Museum which we will be visiting later in the year.
This activity not only tested the children’s technique and focus following on from their clay sculptures in Year Five, but also tested their resilience and perseverance as the clay refused to behave as it was told to! Eventually, the children will paint their amphorae and recreate the rich historical sources that have taught the modern world so much about the wonders of Ancient Greece.
