Light Investigations in Year 6

In Year 6 we have been learning about light and how light travels.

We learnt how light rays travel in a straight line from a light source, reflect off an object and into our eyes, so that we can see.  We modelled how light travels by creating a human model. Using yellow wool to symbolise a ray of light, the other members of our group acted as a light source and an object.  The yellow wool demonstrated how light travels from the source to the object and then into our eyes.

Some of us developed this idea by one member of their group acting as a mirror, showing how light reflected from the object can be reflected from the mirror to the other group members’ eyes.

We also investigated how light is reflected.  After learning that the angles of Incidence and Reflection are always equal, we proved this law by making Periscopes which we used to see over and around objects – it was great fun and useful when spying on each other!
